Grey Screen after latest firmware EFI -update.

My macbook pro early 2011, refuses to restart after shutdown. It shows a grey screen, need to hold power button and restart multiple times to have it restarted properly. Has some one faced such issue?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Tried starting it in recovery mode and now I am hitting the blue screen. Doesn't move forward.

I am able to boot it in single user mode but unable to move forward. Any help appreciated, got lot of data to be backed-up..
